The Call To Obey

"Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine... " Exodus 19:5 (KJV)

"Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?" Romans 6:16 (KJV)

When I did a word study on the word obey it came up 114 times. God believes in obediance. Most passages of the Bible that explain that you should obey God, include a definitive promise with it. So looking at this we must realize that to obey God is the only way to please Him. That Grace comes from discipleship in Christ, and that to receive the heavenly reward we must be obediance to Him.

I came to this topic after reading Jim Wright's post "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" that posit (asks) you the question under the biblical principle of obediance. We as Christians can do as we believe, but it is not going to be "fixed" under Grace (1 Corinthians 6:12). Why? Because contrary to popular belief, it is not meant to be used to give the user an excuse to sin.

This speaks to a myriad (many) concepts, and doctrines, that man has used to negate obeying God and His direct commands. Let's be clear, we MUST walk in obediance, or we are not of Him. For to disobey takes a mindset that declares the word's concept of truth being relative. In disobeying God you must say within yourself that obediance "depends" instead of the absolutes that God gives.

Mark 7:7 (KJV) tells us:

"Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."

And that is exactly what it is, vain, when taking the absolutes of God, then walking in the relativity of the world concerning them. Note that word "vain" and understand that it means, "unsuccessful, or useless". Search for it in your own dictionary and not take my word concerning it's meaning.

That is the reward of relativity, to be unsuccess in the purposes of faith, and useless as a Disciple to Christ. Strong worlds are they not? And the devastation to our Walk Of Faith is profound. It negates everything, and leaves us with nothing, bankrupt before God. God will not give Eternity to those who do not obey.

So is obeying God for His pleasure? No. It is a key to Eternal Life, and even finite (specific) rewards while we walk here on earth. When you pray, you are heard. And that prayer, when heard by God, has the power of obedience and faith behind it. God tells us:

"The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much"James 5:16 (KJV).

And we see here that there is a specific condition that must be met, to be effective in our prayer life. That is we must be righteous! Do you think choosing your own will gives you this before God's throne, the inherent success of your prayers. If do not obey God, we will not recieve favor from Him (John 11:12).

So we must be someone God can count on, honest, pure, holy, and obedient, before His throne. In this we gain Eternal Life, in this we please God, in this we will be successful in working out our Salvation, andin this we fulfill our Walk Of Faith. Amen.
