Sex Sin

After being on the forums I used to frequent I came across this thread about Christians and premarital sex. It seems all were in agreement about it being a sin, but not really understanding or agreeing to what "type" of sin it was and that it didn't really matter because sin is sin.

Well yes and no. I must say I was surprised by some of the denigrating responses by other supposed "Christian" members. This is my response to that thread as follows:

I wasn't going to "go there" on this specific topic, but after reading some of the responses it seems there is an underlying truth that is being missed by some, side-swiped by others and some have tried to bring it to the forefront. Sex between two people is a covenant, a bond that is everlasting, an energy that enfolds each in a union that, when in the context of marriage, is recognized, endorsed and blessed by God.

It is a sacred and HOLY act as it is a confirmation of a covenant between themselves and God.

So you have a magnitude of sin here that is, on average, greater than most sins, when performed outside the confines of marriage. Not only is it of the body (which is the temple of God and is defiled through this sin) but you have an emotional, spiritual, as well as, physical covenant that you have performed OUTSIDE of the sacredness of which it (this covenant) is to be partaken in.

And it must be understood that God is VERY serious concerning the bonds of His Covenants.

In Genesis 9 when God is talking to Moses He uses the wordcovenant 7 times and reinforces the depth of meaning His covenant means. In fact, in this first book of the Bible, God mentions AND EXPLAINS the importance of His Covenants 27 times. And that's just at the beginning of the Bible.

In the New Testament covenant comes up 17 times (KJV all references), but the most important one is this, Hebrews 10: 16-22:

"This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water."
So we have a New Covenant (The promises of God as revealed in the Scriptures, conditioned on certain terms on the part of man, as obedience, repentance, faith, etc.) that the Lord puts into our hearts. In other words, He puts into the temple of which we are. When we defile the temple we have tarnished our covenant with God.

He takes that seriously. It mars our walk Him, it brings a degree of separation in that we have placed our will over His will and broken covenant IF WE CLAIM TO BE OF THE BODY OF CHRIST. Because it is to the body that the covenant is imparted, "by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh" or in essense, Salvation.

So it is not just "another" sin.

Yes, all sin (being in the carnal flesh) is emnity with God (Romans 8). But sex sin is the ONLY sin that God devastated TWO entire cities in which nothing could even grow to this day, the destruction was so utterly complete! The Levitican Laws are some of the harshest ever written in the Bible, especially when you consider the sex sins that are laid out with the corresponding punishment.

And there is no doubt concerning what it is referring to, it is VERY detailed.

Even though we live under the promises of Grace, the Law (or in this case God's Covenant) is placed within us, as the aforementioned passage informs us. It is as binding as it ever was. However, living in the promises rises beyond the confines of justthe Law (for the Law made nothing perfect) and takes us to a place that will fulfill all the Laws, even as we walk Walk Of Faith with God.

In the end, we must purify ourselves even as He (Jesus) is pure, John1 3: 3 (KJV): "And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure." We do not, as God's children and followers of Christ, want to discount the sacrifice He made, and trample on the Covenant He set forth within us.
"Who gave Himself (Jesus) for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." Titus 2:14 (KJV).
Purity of the mind, body, heart and spirit is the hallmark of those who are of God. Let us walk in the purity of God's Covenant, and be holy temples of the living God in ALL things. We need to move beyond the thngs of the world of which sex sin is one of. And many Christians are ensnared in this sin.

It breaks up marriages, it cheapens the sanctity of the act, and preverts the usage of the body so that it can't fulfill the Covenant set forth by God. Think twice before falling prey to it's enticements, brought to bear by television, novels, and other forms of media.

Walk in the power of a faithful and untarnished Covenant with God. In that, is the gift of eternity made true.

Be blessed, be loved and be at peace. May the light of God's glory and presence fire the brilliance of your souls. You are greatly loved.
