Dem•a•gogue . pronunciation: (dem'u-gog",--gôg"),
—n., v., -gogued, -gogu•ing.
1. a person, esp. an orator or political leader, who gains power and popularity by arousing the emotions, passions, and prejudices of the people.
2. (in ancient times) a leader of the people. (a) to treat or manipulate (a political issue) in the manner of a demagogue; obscure or distort with emotionalism, prejudice, etc. (b) to speak or act like a demagogue.
From today's article by Ann Coulter which further highlights this well:
"Le Bon's 1896 book, "The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind," was carefully read by Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini in order to learn how to incite mobs. Our liberals could have been Le Bon's study subjects.
With the country drowning in debt and Medicare and Social Security on high-speed bullet trains to bankruptcy, the entire Democratic Party refuses to acknowledge mathematical facts. Instead, they incite the Democratic mob to hate Republicans by accusing them of wanting to kill old people." (Read article here)What we are witnessing today in the presidential election, is not only the emergence of the Progressive Movement directly, but a new twist of politics. The Culture Of Lies (didn't someone write a book?) where the end game is to win and not to offer the people real and substantive options, but to use the power to further your own private agenda.
I have written about this here, here, and again here.
So the point here is not the usual prejudice that was addressed, but not necessarily overcame permanently, back in the 60's. It is a prejudice that plays on the weaknesses of the people to gain a specific goal, no matter what that weakness is. It's about the power to manipulate to gain the power to indulge in greed, whatever that greed is defined by.
I could have just as easily titled this article, the defining art of the demagogue. Starting with the premise and definition above, we can see that this is a tool again of manipulation. Politics itself lends itself to this use of manipulation. It is keyed into "rhetoric" rather than real and tangible solutions. It is the art of the perceived good of what you stand for, rather than the "doing" of it. A low bar of entry is it not?
But here is the harm, done to America and it's peoples, that we have never been a nation of mediocrity. We have never before in our short history of our republic, been a nation of indolence and welfare. That has been a planned change by the progressive mindset, and it's goals, masquerading as a "democratic" philosophy for the past decades.
Again a definition of "true" democratic values is in order:
So you see that "democratic" values are the values of the nation. But this has been hijacked by the progressives to further the deception of what they are doing to our country, our values, our prosperity, and our underlying values of faith.
- (a.) Befitting the common people; -- opposed to aristocratic.
- (a.) Pertaining to democracy; favoring democracy, or constructed upon the principle of government by the people.
- (a.) Relating to a political party so called.
And after watching this presidency, we can rightly surmise, that Obama is truly a progressive, and anti-thesis to values of this country. We must right the wrong, and get back once more to a goal of "excellence" as "one nation under God".
God bless America
