Now let's be honest, Obama the man has declared Jerusalem as the capital when he was a senator. However it is then postulated by the Obama Press Secretary, Jay Carney, that when Jerusalem is called the capital of the country by Mitt Romney, it was contrary to the administration's take on things. How could it be a different stance than Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's, or Obama's own previous acknowledgement?
Actually it can, under Obama's constant double-entendre (double talk) that he is becoming known for. Let's call it simply a lie, in which the liberal media follows suit. This is a simple thing, but of vital importance to a nation, it's people, the rule of government, and it is simply an offense that is unnecessary, as it is blatantly hostile. Obama, as the president, does not even give a reason for this change of attitude.
It’s a fine diplomatic line for the U.S. government, which has long held the official position that Jerusalem’s disposition will be part of final-status negotiations while politicians and presidents have often given more rhetorical support for Jerusalem as capital than the official line. Israel’s governing body, the Knesset, is in Jerusalem but the U.S. Embassy remains in Tel Aviv despite a 1995 law passed by Congress requiring it to be moved to the holy city by 1999. Clinton, Bush, and Obama alike have failed to act on the law, and the U.S. maintains a Consulate General in Jerusalem. (Read it here and video)So we are left with the idea that Obama is giving the whole situation, and country, a cold shoulder. Let's point out that Presidents Clinton and Bush had not acted upon a congressional mandate to relocate the US embassy to Jerusalem either. Keep in mind that our embassy is suppose to reside in the capital of the nations we have diplomatic ties with. So why haven't we, as a nation, moved our embassy?
Israel is a small country, awash in turmoil by the surrounding countries of it's avowed enemies. The USA has chosen to stand with her, and rightly so, but with this administration's blatant swipe at the acknowledge capital, gives license to other countries and organizations to follow the path Obama has set.
We need to have leadership that is not "small minded" as to render such a slight to an ally. But this president strives constantly to diminish the nation's stature in the international community. Stabbing Israel in the back is SOP (standard operating procedure) for the Obama administration, even though we have helped Israel financially with it's military once again. Again, rightly so.
But one has to think, is it for them or for us, in contributing to the stabilization of the region?
