Finish The Race
A little girl wanted to know what the United States looked like. Her Dad tore a map of the USA from a magazine and then cut it into small pieces. He told her to go to her room to see if she could put it together. After some minutes she returned and handed the map correctly fitted and taped together. The Dad was surprised and asked how she had finished so quickly. She said, "On the other side was a picture of Jesus and when I put him back then our country just came together!
There is an important lesson here, we need to understand the power of God. Too many so-called Christians are waiting for human intervention to heal this nation. That somehow "man" has an answer to the problems we face as a people and country. Hardly!
There is an oft used passage from the Word Of God that we need to look at, and again, the Bible is the final arbiter of truth, ALL truth!
How so, you might ask?
First God never changes, He said so, and if you don't believe that, then there is no reason to be here reading these posts. Being a person of faith means you believe what God says. So what He said yesterday, or thousands of years ago, still stands today.
Second God said "my people" and that might have changed by Christ's advent, how His kids are accounted unto Him in Christ now, but it was to God's children nonetheless.This then assures us that what is said in 2 Chronicles is as valid today as it ever was. So let's look at the components of this and see how it only takes God, and our adherence, compliance (doing) of what He requires, that will change things.
Being God's People
Now we can get into arguments on how Christian our country is, Obama seems to think that the USA embraces all religions. That is in correct and a sophistry (lie) used to sell a bill of goods to the nation. The USA extolls only ONE God, the christian God.
It is in our constitution, our money, emblazoned on our buildings, and every facet of traditional American life reflects this belief in a soveriegn, Christian God. We do not force adherence to a type of religion, hence the so-called separation of church and state, but we do as a nation recognize only the God of the Bible.
So the first thing is to be of God. To walk in our faith and acknowledge Him in everything we say, do, think, and feel. Then we will be OF God and be His people, called by His name.
Humbling Ourselves
The USA is still the greatest nation on the earth. It still leads in so many venues of science, technology, etc. Some will argue that their are other countries that are just as capable, but I will submit to you that what they are capable of is mimicking what the USA can do.
And some are quite adept at that imitation. Example: a Cubic Zirconia is a manmade gemstone that imitates a diamond. They have gotten so good at this imitation that jewelers have to use a precious stone eyepiece to note the difference. Sometimes even having to use chemicals to test the integrity of the stone.
They are that good of an imitation.
But the telling point is that it IS an imitation, without the inherent value of what it is imitating. This then can be applied directly to our country. We have been blessed by God directly and anything else is an imitation. But we ourselves must humble ourselves in the knowledge that this value has been bestowed by God, not ourselves alone.
Seeking God and Prayer
One of the greatest blows to this country came by a person called Madeline O'Hare. She was an atheist that petitioned around the country to try to remove God from the national conversation. She is cited as singulary removing prayer from schools.
When I was growing up, we said the Pledge of Allegience and had prayer, starting every school day. It focused us as a nation, and bonded us as a people. A requisite to have God's direct intervention in the lives of men.
It was in this focus that had given our country the means to seek God, and have a national conversation (prayer) with Him on our behalf as a nation and Christian society.
Turning From Wickedness
The 60s brought several devastating things to our nation: free love (sexual depravity) and the drug culture. From there we headed into the abyss of relativism (everything is relative to what you want, believe, or do. That there are no absolutes of right or wrong).
Like hikers in hostile back country without a compass to guide them, they are lost. So would be this nation if there weren't those who have not laid there compasses down (Christ). The virgins and their lamps, with oil and without, represents this concept.
We as a country must fill our lamps, let God light out path, and then follow Him. It is the only way we can get back home.
The Rewards: Hear, Forgive, and Heal
We see that all of the preceeding actions are not to please some ego-centric God, but rather serve a self-interest of continuity for our nation and as a society. In other words, do these things so you can live!
God then will hear our petitions before His throne, the myriad of prayers rising up before Him in supplication for His direct intervention. And the prayers asking forgiveness for our self indulgence and materialistic culture. This is the only way to be healed.
But here is the power, that God WILL heal us IF we do these things. How many will it take to accomplish this? One. One, how so? It only takes one God, with one purpose for His children, one power that built the universe and one plan for the redemption of His prodigal children to come home.
All it takes is one, and the one thing it requires is that we be one people before His throne, one people in His kingdom, and one people in the culture, society, and nation called America. The USA.
So I get tired of hearing what WE need to do.
Individually and collectively, we need only to humble, pray, seek, and repent. That is OUR responsibility. But that is OUR responsibility as Christians anyway, it is the focus of our Walk Of Faith and Discipleship in Christ. Then God will add all else to it.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV).Now I know there are those who will say that this was for a time past, that God was speaking in the Old Testament to Jews only.
